Engage in the Combating Disinformation

GAMEDIA project introduction

We are introducing you to the GAMEDIA project.

The Gamedia project is the project about combating disinformation through the support of youth workers. It aims to provide tools for youth workers and increase their skills in training youth in media literacy and sensitize them to mis/disinformation and fake news.

The project’s goal is to make youth even more conscious and active citizens, creating a positive impact on the development of the communities.

GAMEDIA product

We have developed a card-based board game which is focused on media-literacy training workshops with youth. Youth workers can now test and train in the use of the project game and the implementation of media literacy training, and carry out local workshops with youth. The product is available for printing  in English, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Swedish, and Lithuanian.

GAMEDIA journey

In autumn 2023, we have started the development of the game with the combined research of the desk analysis in each country, Sweden, Romania, Spain, Italy, and Lithuania, and a survey disseminated among you and the youth workers.

The main takeaways:

Challenges in combating fake news

A common challenge among youth workers in Italy, Sweden, and Romania is the frequency of generated fake news, suggesting a shared concern about the widespread dissemination of false information. Spain is more concerned about the manipulative tactics used in fake news. Lithuania identifies a challenge in fake news originating from actual media outlets. This may be related to the fact that Lithuania is constantly exposed to Russian cyberattacks and propaganda.

Challenges in Teaching Media Literacy Skills

Italy, Sweden and Romania identify information overload as a challenge, highlighting a mutual recognition of the impact of excessive information on the efficacy of media literacy education. Conversely, Lithuania and Spain’s emphasis on the lack of critical thinking as the biggest challenge in teaching media literacy skills highlights the importance of cultivating analytical abilities among individuals to effectively navigate in today’s media landscape.

GAMEDIA development

Since winter 2024, we have been working on designing the interactive, attractive, easy game that stimulates media literacy. We have developed 3 scenarios, boards, cards, and, of course, guides on how to facilitate the game for the youth workers. Our piloting and analysis with the target groups showed that students found the game interesting and they learnt new information from it. The development included all partner countries which are Sweden, Romania, Spain, Italy, and Lithuania.

GAMEDIA videos

During the last 6 months of the project, we have been working on developing the instructional videos for you. The project ends in autumn 2025, and we will be happy that the GAMEDIA product can leverage your work in the field of youth.
